Interviewer told me about their no-beach policy mid- interview. I froze.
You have to surrender so much control in the workplace. You don't have much say over what you do and when, when you're working for a paycheck. It can all feel very random. It has a huge impact on your life and your day-to-day, but you don't have much control over what you can do about it. And sometimes employers will exercise more than their rights over you. They want to exercise full control, just because they can, and they know that you need a job badly enough not to say anything. But this is no way to treat your employees. You want people to show up not just because they have to, but because they want to, and they have something to contribute. Good managers know how to use this to inspire one another, not just exert full control. But sometimes you end up in a situation that you can't get out of, and you wish you had run when you had the chance. This is why the internet is helpful sometimes. It can help you realize things that you wouldn't have realized on your own. The person in this story learned that. Keep reading to see what they had to say.
